MOTR: the Internal Tool for Repair Orders, Lots and Dispatch

V&J Auto Body is a US collision-repair business. A shop like it runs on two questions: where is that vehicle right now, and who is supposed to move it next. MOTR answers them in one place for the office and the technicians.

MOTR operations dashboard: cars on lot, active repairs, vehicles waiting for payment and due out today.

What we built

  • Repair orders
  • Vehicle lots, where a vehicle's location only changes when a move task is completed
  • Dispatch
  • Technician tasks, including the mobile driver flow
  • Transactions and reporting

Stack

React and TypeScript frontend, Xano backend.

What changed

In daily use by the shop's staff.

Built with the owner in weekly stand-ups, ticket by ticket. Every change is gated on a clean type-check and a full production build before it ships, with a written test path so the client can try it before it reaches production.

The hard part was the invariants, not the screens. Planned moves are projected state, not physical truth. Get that wrong and the system sends a technician to a bay that is already taken.
